In May 2023, the Indian Ocean Exchanges program travelled to coastal Kenya, for its third and final international study tour, hosted by the National Museums of Kenya. Fourteen participants were present. Professor Prita Meier (NYU), Athman Hussein (Keeper of Coastal Heritage, National Museums of Kenya), and Nancy Um (Getty Research Institute) served as mentors. Kara Olidge (Getty Research Institute) also accompanied the trip. The week began with a lively public conversation held on May 22, 2023, at the Swahili Cultural Centre in Mombasa.
